  • PETA With more than 2 million members and supporters, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time – on factory farms, in laboratories, the clothing trade and the entertainment industry – and executes its initiatives through public education, criminal investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation and awareness raising events.

  • International Trade Center's Ethical Fashion Program The Ethical Fashion Program aims to reduce poverty by providing work to support disadvantaged communities in Africa. The program goes beyond charity by creating a sustainable livelihood with less dependence on aid. Stella McCartney designed the Spring 2012 large python print tote and python print flat sandal in association with the program, and both are hand made in Nairobi, Kenya from recycled tent canvas fabric.

  • Meat Free Monday Many people are unaware that livestock production is responsible for 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions – more than the entire global transport sector combined. Founded by Paul, Stella and Mary McCartney, Meat Free Monday is an environmental campaign to raise awareness of the climate-changing impact of meat production and consumption. Meat Free Monday also provides a wealth of information around the health issues of eating meat, and tasty vegetarian alternatives for otherwise carnivorous diets.

  • NAKED HEART FOUNDATION Motivated by the 2004 Beslan School siege and the huge disparity of wealth in her native Russia, model Natalia Vodianova founded the Naked Heart Foundation in 2005 with the mission of providing a safe and inspiring play environment for every child living in urban Russia. This is because, as the American psychiatrist Stuart Brown puts it, “play allows us to develop alternatives to violence and despair.” Since its inception, the Naked Heart Foundation has developed over 40 playgrounds in 30 Russian and English cities. Fundraising events such as the Love Ball allow the foundation to keep moving towards its target of 500.

  • THE LINDA MCCARTNEY CENTRE Initially a nursing college for the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, in the 1970s The Linda McCartney Centre switched its focus to patient care for sufferers of breast cancer. In its present incarnation, The Linda McCartney Centre offers some of the most advanced and innovative cancer treatments available in the UK today, with a research and development unit that oversees over 500 different forms of research on behalf of the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

  • COMIC RELIEF Founded by Alexander Mendis and filmmaker Richard Curtis in the belief that laughter is the best medicine, Comic Relief’s vision is to foster “a just world free from poverty” and to create a “positive change through the power of entertainment.” Its charitable activities range from supporting orphans in Africa who have lost parents to AIDS, to helping the homeless of Britain’s streets. The highlight of Comic Relief’s appeal is Red Nose Day. In 2009, Stella McCartney designed a series of Fairtrade organic cotton T-shirts for Comic Relief, of which all profits were donated to the charity.

  • HOPEFIELD ANIMAL SANCTUARY Founded in 1983, the Hopefield Animal Sanctuary is a UK based non-profit organisation devoted to creating a better quality of life for sick, unwanted and mistreated animals.   • THE WOMEN’S CANCER RESEARCH FUND With the goal of addressing the issue of cancer and the urgent need to develop new methods of treatment, detection and even prevention, The Women’s Cancer Research Fund joined forces with the influential Hollywood-based Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) to raise funds to fast-track more effective approaches to the early diagnosis of women’s cancers. Through fundraising, the charity has helped bring about one of the most ambitious medical projects today – EIF’s Breast Cancer Biomarker Discover Project, in which world-class scientists are researching a blood test that will diagnose breast and other women’s cancers in the earliest stages – i.e., when they can be cured. 2003, the charity presented Stella McCartney with the Woman of Courage Award at the An Unforgettable Evening gala event for her sustained support in the battle against breast cancer.

  • ADVENTURE ECOLOGY Adventure Ecology uses travel, education, entertainment and the arts to inspire, engage and address global sustainability issues via the creation of an international community of Agents of Change. Having explored the effects of the “Rainforest Chernobyl” oil spill in Ecuador with a team of artists and photographers, in 2010 founder David de Rothschild sailed to the Pacific’s vast vortex of floating plastic in the Plastiki, a boat made from 12,500 recycled bottles in order to raise awareness of marine debris and the way we view waste.
